7 Questions With Govinda-Varun Sharma's Fryday Director Abhishek Dogra
Today as Govinda and Varun Sharma's Fryday hits theatres, we got talking to the director of the film Abhishek Dogra. Here's the exclusive interview
Abhishek Dogra's latest release Fryday has hit theatres today. The film starring Govinda and Varun Sharma in the lead roles is one of the top trends since morning. A little while ago we spoke to the director for an exclusive chat about the film. Excerpts from the tete-a-tete:
Tell us about the Fryday?
It's a situational comedy which happens on a friday where all the characters incidentally get fried. That's why the name.
The movie was to release a few months back but it was postponed. Why?
There was some date issue with the actors and also we were not fully ready with the post production of the movie.
What was your first meeting with Govinda like? Was the role always written for him?
Of course! Govinda was always the first choice for the role. The first meeting that I had with him we didn't discuss anything about the movie. It was a very informal meeting where we spoke about movies in general, food, life and other things.

Varun Sharma was there in your last film Dolly Ki Doli. Was it difficult to convince him to be a part for your second film?
Not at all! He was in fact quite excited.
You last film didn't do that well. Any comments?
It did break even. Also, you have to consider that when that movie came out that time Sonam Kapoor wasn't as big as she is today. Even Rajkummar Rao, Varun Sharma and Pulkit Sharma were not that big names when Dolly Ki Doli. Considering all of that, the film did pretty well in its space.
Did you approach Sonam Kapoor to play the female lead on Fryday?
No. Actually, I needed a newcomer for this role.

Lastly, what after Fryday are you working on?
I have signed a film with Chitrangda Singh's production house, which produced Soorma. Once I am free after Fryday, I will start working on that.
